Wonderful Spain in a nutshell! Not to be missed!

The Poble Espanyol constructed in 1929, for the Barcelona International Exhibition is an outdoor open-air architectural museum, located on the mountain of Montjuic. It is one of the few monuments that belonged to an International Exhibition that can still be visited. From the beginning, it was conceived as a real "village" in the middle of a city, with a surface area of 49,000 m2. The aim was to give an idea of what might be an "ideal model" of a Spanish village containing the main characteristics of all towns and villages in the peninsula. For this reason, 117 buildings, streets and squares were reproduced to scale. Pieces were selected taking into account criteria of aesthetic fit that could help create a harmonious overall composition in accordance with the "village" design that had been conceived. Poble Espanyol is a 'living' village of winding narrow streets, shady corner coutyards and visual surprises showcasing the different regional architectural styles of Spain.

Barcelona Museu del Modernisme

The new Museu del Modernisme opened in 2010. It is housed in a former textile factory in the centre of Barcelona, and offers visitors the chance to enjoy a cultural centre dedicated exclusively to modernista art. Several items by Antoni Gaudí, including chairs from Casa Batlló and a mirror from Casa Calvet, are supplemented by a host of items by his lesser-known contemporaries, including some typically whimsical, mock-medieval pieces by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The basement is lined with Modernista art, including paintings by Ramon Casas and Santiago Rusiñol, and statues by Josep Llimona and Eusebi Arnau.

Barcelona museum of Ideas and Inventions

The museum looks at one of the most hilarious and appealing trends in contemporary invention that has a broad appeal: useless and absurd inventions. This funny side of the world of inventions can be seen alongside the MIBA Collection, which is the mainstay of the museum. For instance, the main entrance that invites you to “fly” as you walk across a sheet of clear glass is not recommended for vertigo sufferers, and nor is the slide which visitors can jump on, literally and metaphorically, that leads to the ground floor of the museum. 

No museum would be complete without a shop. The miba Shop offers a selection of the museum’s most important inventions, one-off objects and limited editions sourced from inventors’ fairs around the world or from the inventors themselves

Barcelona MNAC

The MNAC embraces all the arts (sculpture, painting, objets d'art, drawing, engraving, posters, photography and coinage) and has the task of explaining the general history of Catalan art from the Romanesque period to the mid-twentieth century. In the case of the Romanesque and Gothic collections, this discourse is characterized by the Catalan provenance of most of the pieces, although, particularly in the Gothic, comparisons are made with art from other provenances. With regard to the Renaissance and Baroque collections, the works included lead to a more international discourse, with the work of great painters, such as El Greco, Zurbarán, Velázquez, Cranach, Rubens...

The colorful Casa Batlló, a house from the 19th century renovated in the well-known modernist style, is one of many masterpieces of Gaudí in Barcelona.

The Casa Batlló was awarded the 2004 Europa Nostra Award for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
