Gavà has a 4 kilometers coastline with an exceptional pine wood. The name "Gavà" appears for the first time in a document from the year 1000 and archeological testimonies prove an occupation form the prehistory. Gavà owe its name, according to the most broadcasted version, from Gavius, the founder of a Roman villa which occupated a part of the current city centre.
